NOVEMBER FALL 2021 EDITION
Interview by Isaac Davis, JR, MA, MBA
Answers by DJ G-String
The heart of our love for music is house music. When I hear house music laced over strong female vocals, the feeling I get sends me into pure ecstasy. The ability of a skillful DJ is mixing different music styles/beats into something that others can groove to when they are dancing. Our following interview comes from the rising sensational DJ G-String, building up quite the impressive resume with her gigs. We spoke with the talented DJ in this fun and delightful interview that will please house music lovers around the world.
Isaac: What’s your background? What got you into making music? How long has music been a part of your life?
DJ G-String: Since I was a young little girl at age 15. It has been a core part of who I am and how I can relate to others through music.
Isaac: If it wasn’t for music, where would you be now?
DJ G-String: Ironically, I have always been on two paths in my life, one music/DJ and the other cybersecurity nerd!
Isaac: How did you come to realize that music was the way forward for you?
DJ G-String: I have always loved music. Whenever I make music or DJ, I just feel so alive.
Isaac: If you had to sacrifice one skill, which would you least like to let go, and why?
DJ G-String: This is a dangerous question, ha. I think the skill that I would sacrifice would be not to be so witty.
Isaac: You are influenced by the iconic group, The Doors. What does their music mean to you as an artist?
DJ G-String: The doors are such a transformative group. I felt the music in my soul. All the lyrics and style of the tracks literally shake me up. I can listen to LA Woman and Break on Through all day. The blues, jazz, just sound alone, plus the lyrics drive it home. I feel like Nirvana got me in love with alternative rock music, and then I pivoted to Jimmy Hendricks and The Doors. They all have impacted my sound.
Isaac: How would you describe your style of music?
DJ G-String: My music is really vocal house. Very story-telling and emotional drive.
Isaac: In what way do you aim to make a difference?
DJ G-String: I am a huge advocate for helping people and animals. I have been very successful in my life, and I try to give back at any chance I get.
Isaac: Who’s your fashion icon, and why?
DJ G-String: Madonna. Not only did she break barriers in music, but she also showed the world that women could be whatever they wanted to be.
Isaac: What’s the most trouble you’ve ever gotten into growing up?
DJ G-String: I actually was a pretty good kid, so really no trouble here. I was keeping it wholesome, haha.
Isaac: Where is your career heading? What’s the vision?
DJ G-String: Well, I am in a comeback situation. I took a break from the music scene as a DJ/Producer and came back in 2019. I was in another project called Digging4Julie. So my vision is to get back into festivals and hopefully on a mini-tour in 2022. I have had two tracks on beatport top 100 in 2021, so the sky is my limit.
Isaac: How do you put words to paper? What’s your creative process like for you?
DJ G-String: I usually write songs late on Friday nights, like 11 pm until 4 am. I am either finished meditating or a little bit in the sky. I find the most successful tracks I have made were when I was super relaxed and not feeling any pressure.
Isaac: When it comes to performing, what’s your style?
DJ G-String: High energy, flowing beats, and just feeling the vibe and the music.
Isaac: If you could perform anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
DJ G-String: IBIZA or Greece because those parties are fire.
Isaac: What’s your favorite project so far, and why?
DJ G-String: I have really liked the track Always I wrote and Your Love. I think those are my ultimate favorite songs.
Isaac: How do you see your sound evolving in the next couple of years?
DJ G-String: It is already evolving. I am exploring the vibe of the music I love and really trying to be me still.
Isaac: What makes you different from other rappers in the industry?
DJ G-String: As a DJ, I am a bit different because my music is not EDM Mainstream – it is vocal house, which makes me different. I remix my tracks to get them mainstream, but ironically, my audience likes my originals, which tells me they want something different.
Isaac: Who are your biggest musical influences? Would you say you’re at all like them?
DJ G-String: I would say Kaskade on the music production side and Bad Boy Bill on the DJ side. I think I am similar to the lyrically focused aspect of Kaskade’s music, and for Bad Boy Bill just the smooth mixing.
Isaac: When driving, is there a specific track that has you blasting the stereo with the windows down?
DJ G-String: Most likely old-school tracks I love. An excellent old brighter days track for sure.
Isaac: Which artists do you think you would harmonize best with your style of music?
DJ G-String: I think my music is close to Tokimonsta, Alice Wonderland, and sometimes a bit of 80s feel of Corey Hart or Annie Lennox.
Isaac: If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
DJ G-String: Kaskade -hands down. His music is so inspirational to me.
Isaac: If you had to switch bodies with another artist, who would it be and why?
DJ G-String:I like my body.
Isaac: Shameless plug time; promote yourself….
